οι ερωτηθέντες  people questioned

Notice that English has no way of simply nominalising the participle, and needs two words, one a "carrier" to provide the grammatical nominalisation, and one to carry the lexical meaning.  An alternative would be "those questioned".  The ILSP corpus data shows that ερωτηθέντες can be followed by a noun, as in  Σχεδόν οι μισοί από τους ερωτηθέντες εισαγωγείς δήλωσαν ότι ..., but usually is not.  In English this would be Almost half of the importers asked declared that ..., i.e. the grammatical pattern is:

    those questioned
   people questioned
importers questioned
    those asked
importers asked

This pattern is widespread in English.  Consider for example the phrase anyone found in the following citations taken from the Bank of English's 450 million word corpus:

One of these citations has a different grammatical pattern of anyone found from the others. Which is it?
