Professor Eric Sandeen,

Professor and Director of the
American Studies Program
at the University of Wyoming, USA.

Eric Sandeen is the author of Picturing an Exhibition: The Family of Man in 1950s American Culture (New Mexico, 1995) and several articles on urban housing and American visual culture. He is currently working on a book-length manuscript that examines the dynamic between public land and private ownership in contemporary American culture. Scenically different terrain in New York and Wyoming - epitome zones such as Times Square and South Pass, officially designated sites such as Ellis Island National Monument and Grand Teton National Park - should be drawn together, he believes, to consider how the public realm can be maintained in a culture that privileges private property.
