ASSIROS: THE CHILD'S CACHE

The 'child's cache' was found in a small pit in the Phase 4 levels in the central part of the site. There were no associated structures nor anything to suggest the presence of a burial.

The objects form an assemblage of items unique for the Late Bronze or Iron Age in Greece. They include the only figurine found on the site - an animal - several miniature pottery vessels including a pestle and mortar, spindle whorls, a group of quartz pebbles and a collection of bones from different animals.

There is nothing to suggest any ritual activity in this or any other part of the site and it seems most natural to interpret this as a group of favourite items collected  by a small child as playthings.
