Inner wall of double 'casemated' construction, phase 7 |
The first defensive wall was a bank of clay dating to the first occupation of the site. as the mound increased in height with each reconstruction of the buildings within, this bank was increased in height as a terrace and to provide a defensive perimeter. The top of the bank was formed by two parallel walls linked by short short cross walls and the spaces between were filled with mud brick debris and rubble to form a solid structure. The same method of construction can be seem at Toumba Thessalonikis.
