At first (c 1350 BC) Mycenaean pottery is all imported from manufacturing centres further south, but soon it began to be produced in coastal and then inland Macedonia. By 1200 BC - when the Mycenaean Palatial civilizations of Southern Greece are destroyed - the quantities in use at Assiros are much greater but almost all is made in the region.

INCREASING USE OF MYCENAEAN POTTERY

The first pottery to be imported dates to the LH IIIA 2 phase. The vessels are usually small - cups or bowls - decorated with simple patterns, such as the wavy band on this example. The small jars so frequent in Southern Greece or exported to Cyprus and Egypt at this period are rare in Macedonia. Presumably the inhabitants of Assiros had not acquired the taste for the perfume or ointment they contained.
