EARLY BRONZE AGE METAL FINDS FROM SERVIA

BRONZE OBJECTS FROM EBA LEVELS:

RECONSTRUCTION OF BRONZE AXE

Copper objects are known in Greece and the Balkans from the final stages of the Late Neolithic period but understanding of the alloying techniques necessary to produce a harder metal which could be cast at lower temperatures - bronze - does not seem to have happened until the Early Bronze Age. In the Aegean area, at least, the first experiments were made with arsenic rather than the tin in use later and these two objects illustrate this practice.
