ASSIROS: PHASE 2 LOOM IN SITU

Large conical loomweights of poorly fired clay were typical of both Bronze Age and Iron Age levels. The group of 16 weights found in Room 10 lying in two rows indicate that a loom stood here and was in use at the time of the destruction fire. The upright warp-weighted loom is well attested in prehistoric Europe and elsewhere, though finds of weights in situ are rare. This type of loom was formed by two upright posts set in the ground linked with cross bars at top and bottom and was used to weave cloth of a narrow width.
